<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change strength of emitted electric field in accordance with an amount of the developer, to perform radio communication with as small electric field strength as possible, and to achieve decrease of unwanted radiation and reduction of manufacture cost. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a container 6 to which a radio frequency tag 7 is attached and in which developer containing toner and magnetic carrier is stored; a module 8 which can change the strength of electric field emitted toward the radio frequency tag 7; and a residual amount detection part which detects the residual amount of the developer stored in the developer container.
