<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce random discarding of transmitted packets in relation to a packet communication device having a plurality of input/output ports. <P>SOLUTION: The packet communication device 10 includes a packet control unit 11 which controls transfer of packets arrived at a port 14 to a port 15 corresponding to transmission destinations, a buffer means having, for example, an external memory 13 which buffers the packets corresponding to the port 14 and the port 15, a counter which counts the packets accumulated in the buffer means, and a processor 12 which compares the number of accumulated packets counted by the counter with a threshold value and, when the accumulated number of packets exceeds the threshold value, carries out control for packet discarding with respect to the packet control unit 11. The processor 12 has functions for monitoring the transmission modes such as the transmission speeds of packets subjected to transfer control by the packet control unit 11 and changing and setting the threshold value so as to minimize the random discarding of packets in accordance with the transmission modes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
