<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder sharing driving force for a paper returning claw with another mechanism, and capable of properly controlling the timing of movement of the paper returning claw without damaging paper. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A spring clutch 50 is disposed on a path supplying driving force to the paper returning claw 40. The spring clutch 50 is rotated by the driving force from a driving gear, and stopped by locking an armature 55 to first and second stoppers 53, 54. Rotations of the spring clutch 50 is converted into reciprocating movement of the paper returning claw 40 by a cam 52 rotating integrally with the spring clutch 50 and a cam follower 45 integrated with the paper returning claw 40.
