<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle cross member for securing well-balanced rigidity and strength without increasing the weight of a vehicle body by efficiently dispersing a load. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The vehicle cross member 9b is fixed to a pair of right and left side rails 8 extending in the longitudinal direction of a vehicle for connecting the side rails 8 to each other in the cross direction of the vehicle to form a ladder-type chassis frame. Herein, a first member 1 is fixed to the inner face of a web 8a of one of the pair of right and left side rails 8 and a second member 2 is fixed to the inner face of a web 8a of the other. A clutch device 3 is interposed between the first member 1 and the second member 2. The torque transmission property of the clutch device 3 is set so that the first member 1 and the second member 2 are fastened to each other to absorb torsion torque when predetermined torsion or greater one occurs in the pair of right and left side rails 8.
