<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a catalyst coat layer on the surface layer of a porous inorganic base material, while suppressing the intrusion of a catalyst component into pores present in the porous inorganic base material. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the catalyst body includes processes of: preparing the porous inorganic base material 10 and impregnating liquid into the pores of the porous inorganic base material 10; preparing powder of coagulant formed by coagulating catalyst component particles and metal oxide particles and manufacturing dispersion dispersed with the powdery coagulant; dipping the porous inorganic base material in the prepared dispersion; and drying and firing the porous inorganic base material. This method prevents the intrusion of the catalyst component particles into pores of the porous inorganic base material, as the porous inorganic base material 10 is dipped in the dispersion with the pores blocked with liquid.
