The transmission (14) has a pump i.e. engine driven hydraulic pump, for supplying fluid pressure to a main passage. A valve among a set of valves controls fluid communication between a clutch among a set of clutches (C1-C5) and a passage among a set of passages. The remaining two valves control fluid communication between the main passage and the remaining two passages such that the two valves selectively provide an operating condition in which one passage is not in fluid communication with the main passage and the other two passages are in fluid communication with the main passage.
