A transmitting device is connected to a plurality of receiving units using cables, etc. conforming to the HDMI or the like via a digital interface, and includes a plurality of output portions and a control portion. The first output portion transmits a content signal containing an audio signal and a video signal to the first receiving unit. The second output portion is capable of transmitting a content signal based on the same transmission standard as the first output portion uses, and transmits the same content signal as the one transmitted from the first output portion to the second receiving unit. The control portion controls the plurality of output portions so that these output portions may simultaneously transmit the content signal in different transmission frequencies. Due to this structure, the transmitting device can minimize the transmission frequency for transmitting audio signals and the transmission frequency for transmitting video signals even if it transmits high-quality videos. Consequently, the transmitting device can be reduced in noise attributable to high-frequency transmission and can also be improved in sound quality.
