ENHANCED HDMI CABLE DETECTION

A data communication system like HDMI has a standard cable having multiple shields at the connectors being connected to respective shield pins. An enhanced cable (77) connects a first and a second shield. At one end of the cable the first shield is connected to a shield pin and the second shield is not connected to a shield pin, while at the other end of the cable the first shield is not connected to a shield pin and the second shield is connected to a shield pin. An enhanced device (76) detects a status of said shield pins being either connected to ground or being not connected and determines a connection status indicating the presence of either the standard cable or the enhanced cable connected between the enhanced device and a peer device.
