PURPOSE: An automatic transmission is provided to improve fuel efficiency while maintaining the endurance by employing a compact oil pump. CONSTITUTION: An automatic transmission includes a middle shaft, an input shaft, an external gear oil pump, a planetary gear set, and an output shaft. The middle shaft(14) is connected to a crank shaft(10) via a damper(12). The input shaft(18) is connected variably to the middle shaft via a starting clutch(16). The external gear oil pump(20) is lined with the middle shaft. The planetary gear set(22) is installed on the input shaft. The output shaft(24) outputs a driving force through the planetary gear set.
