Use of mono-disperse, macroporous chelating resins in the pulp process (R.I.P.) for recovery of metals.Typical functional resin groups are imino-diacetic acid-, aminomethylphophonic acid- , thiourea-, mercapto-, picolinamino-; and weak acid e.g. carboxylic groups, may additionally be included in the resin. The resin is used as beads of diameter 0.35-1.5 mm. Independent claims are included for A process for metal recovery, comprising the steps:roasting the metal ore; milling the ore to particle size less than 0.5mm; acid dissolution of the calcined ore in H 2SO 4 , HCl, or HNO 3, etc; acid neutralization; addition of mono disperse, macro porous chelating ion exchange resin; separation of resin by sieving; eluting metal from loaded resin using e.g. H 2SO 4 , HCl, or ammoniacal reagent as required. A method of manufacturing a picolinamino- resin, comprising the steps: preparation of monodisperse copolymer beads from styrene, divinylbenzene, and ethylstyrene by a jetting or seed-feed procedure; amidomethylation of the polymer beads; rearrangement of the functional groups to aminomethyl- ; treatment with picolyl chloride to produce the required picolinamino- functional groups. |
