The method involves measuring a temperature of a supercapacitor, and limiting an effective current supplied or stored by the super-capacitor by totally or partially inhibiting one of functions e.g. engine start up and acceleration functions, in a vehicle when the temperature exceeds a preset threshold. Charging of the supercapacitor by a reversible alternator of the vehicle is partially inhibited when the temperature of the supercapacitor attains a preset temperature threshold.
