PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for coding and decoding using bit precision are provided to improve compression efficiency by coding and decoding the image data using the calculated bit precision and the adaptive bit precision. CONSTITUTION: An adaptive bit precision output unit(120) outputs the adaptive bit precision and the adaptive bit precision row according to a symbol. A bit precision output unit(130) outputs the bit precision according to a preset field. A decoder(140) decodes the input data using one of the adaptive bit precision and the bit precision or more according to the kind of object field.
