PURPOSE: An image recording/reproducing apparatus and a fade processing method thereof are provided to easily discriminate images of displayed files as giving the fade effect. CONSTITUTION: An image recording/reproducing apparatus comprises a controller which determines whether the encoding of a moving picture is performed(200). If the encoding is performed, it is determined whether the initial part of the moving picture is the first frame(202). If so, a fade processor sets up the brightness of an image into the original brightness of the recording start point and encodes the image data(204).
