The method involves providing data files with data needed for screening image data, prior to screening the image data for a subsequent exposure of printing forms. The data is changed such that values of individual elements in two-dimensional data fields are changed. A number of elements are determined, where values of the elements are changed by evaluating regions within the data fields. Image datasets subdivided into micro-areas are produced. The micro-areas with pixels having the same size as an integer multiple or an integer part of a size of pixels of a screened image are defined.
