[Class 109.] To obtain a dead-lay rope, the individual wires or strands are provided with a twist equal and opposite to that which they receive in the closing die, and the bundles of wires or strands are twisted in opposite direction to the twist imposed upon them by the laying plate. The twisting of the individual wires or strands is effected by flyers 52, and the wires are fed without further twisting through holes in plates 20 which rotate with the main flyer 3, but which do not ro - tate about their own axes. The bundles of wires or strands are twisted at the pulleys 25, 26, and are reversely twisted by the laying plate 9, which rotates in opposite direction to and at double the speed of the flyer 3. From the plate 9 the wires &c. pass to the closing die 10 and to the take-up 11.</p> |
