A mechanical torque converter where faceplates E and F form a unit when affixed to input shaft (G, fig 1) and axles C and D rest in bearings inside the faceplates. Spur gears I and J are affixed to the axles C and D outside the unit formed by E, F and (G), and unbalanced weights A and B are affixed to the axles between E and F. Axles C and D are free to rotate fully. Spur gear K is always engaged with spur gears I and J and is free to rotate subject to the condition that through being connected by gears axles C and D also rotate. Output torque is proportional to the difference in rotational speed of the input and output shafts squared, unless rotational speed of input shaft G is significantly larger than the difference in rotational speeds of G and H, or the difference in velocity is zero. |
