A channel control unit updates a channel table contained in a current channel table when a link or other relay device has failed. Upon update, the channel control unit acquires information on a channel to be suppressed indicating a channel which may generate micro loop in the channel table after the update and registers the channel on a suppression object table. A suppression control unit deletes from the suppression object table, a channel having the adjacent relay device as the next transfer destination when the channel update in the adjacent relay device is complete. A transfer process unit decides a transfer channel of a packet according to a current channel table and executes transfer of the packet if the decided transfer channel is not registered on the suppression object table. Thus, it is possible to surely avoid a micro loop upon channel switching in a network system which relays communication between a plurality of networks by a plurality of relay devices.
