The method involves gripping individual pre-form (30) successively and conveying it upward. The pre-forms are successively delivered to a perforated overhead vacuum belt, which is impinged with vacuum on rear side. An image of each pre-form is obtained such that an image of complete pre-form is obtained. An electronic data set of the image is generated and processed by electronic data processing such that defective pre-form (38) is detected. An independent claim is included for a device for executing the method for checking and sorting out plastic pre-forms.
