A method for assessing the age of the cattle by the infrared spectroscopy of the bones of the limbs provides for measuring the relative optical density of the calcinated bones within the middle part of the absorption spectrum. The age is calculated according to the formula of non-linear regression:wherein T is the age of the animal in months; x is the relative optical density. The regression coefficients for the wave number of 571 cmare the following:= 14.5;= 43.0;= -3.5.
