The method involves addressing a message representing a dangerous occurrence and a location (EE) of a road traffic lane (V1) to a communication beacon (B1) in case of detection of the occurrence in the location. Another message representing the occurrence and the location is emitted by the beacon to radio reception units (MR) of a motor vehicle (VA1). A sound alarm message e.g. speech synthesis message, is diffused with a loudspeaker (MD) in case of reception of the latter message. The alarm message is displayed on a screen of display units (MA) to warn a driver of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a system for warning a driver of a motor vehicle.
