PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the discrimination accuracy of cracked grains; to provide an optical rice grain sorter which can simultaneously discriminate colored grains and foreign particles in addition to cracked grains. SOLUTION: The optical rice grain sorter obtains a first rice grain image where crack parts are not detected, but at least the grain surface scratch parts and embryo parts are detected, and a second rice grain image where at least the crack parts, grain surface scratch parts, and embryo parts are detected, in order to discriminate cracked grains. Subtraction treatment (calculation) is performed using both images to make only the image of the crack parts remain, thereby being capable of the accurate discrimination of the cracked grains without receiving the influence of the shadow (detected light) of the grain surface scratch and embryo parts.
