<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a full-text retrieval technique for preventing useless processing by reducing necessary traffic for collecting retrieval results by a plurality of devices (computers). Ž<P>SOLUTION: A distributed retrieval device 4 and a document portion retrieval device 5 are connected to an input-output device 3 through a network. The input-output device 3 receives a retrieval condition from a user terminal 2 and responds retrieval results to the user terminal 2. The distributed retrieval device 4 retrieves an electronic document on the basis of a retrieval condition input to the input-output device and acquires the number of an electronic document agreeing to the retrieval condition and the number of a document portion obtained by converting the position of a retrieval word included in the electronic document into magnitude of an optional unit. The acquired information is transmitted to the document portion retrieval device 5 via the input-output device 3, and additional information for constructing the retrieval results by a user's designation format is acquired on the basis of the document number and the document portion number.
