<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more facilitate selection from a menu. <P>SOLUTION: A selection display device comprising a menu at each level of the hierarchy, a display means for displaying the menu at each level on a screen, and a touch panel for performing an instruction operation concerning scrolling for positioning a desired menu at a predetermined selection position on the screen or switching of a display screen, has a control means which causes the display means to display the display screen, if a fingertip is moved for operation in a first direction parallel to the scroll direction on the touch panel, scrolls a menu on the display screen being displayed (step 44), and if the fingerchip is moved for operation in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, switches the display screen being displayed to a higher display screen thereof, or switches so that a lower menu of the menu at the selection position is displayed on the display screen (step 46).
