The heat exchanger (1'), especially at a solid fuel burner, has a pipe (1) at its lower end to take exhaust gas from the burner. Angled guide plates (2) lead the gas downwards without turbulence to escape upwards through a gap at the end of the plates. Stabilizers (3) are bonded to the plates. Perforated angled plates (4) are under the guide plates to prevent the liquid in the space (5) under them from flowing back to the burner. Further guide plates (6) are over the guide plate stabilizers to give the gas an eddy flow towards the upper outflow (7).
