<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate rewriting a file containing main image data and sub-image data. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When it is "delete" instruction is determined in step SC27, correction is performed to write "Select" instead of "Active" set in a sub-image identification image file directory IFD setting region corresponding to sub-image data instructed to be deleted in a main image header of a file (step SC28). When an end instruction is issued thereafter (step SC29→Yes), data for a sub-image with "select" set thereto in the step SC28 are deleted from the file (step SC30), and correction is performed to write "Non-use" instead of the "Select" set in a sub-image identification IFD setting region corresponding to the deleted sub-image data in the main image header of the file (step SC31).
