<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk apparatus which improves the degree of freedom in design and the allowance of motion by enabling a lap amount to be set large, enabling a disk to be securely released and securing a clearance between the disk and the other mechanism. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical disk apparatus includes a disk motor 12 configured to hold and rotate an optical disk 11, a motor support mechanism configured to support the disk motor to be movable, a motor lift mechanism configured to ascend and descend the disk motor among an ascending position, a descending position and a disk drive position between the ascending position and the descending position, a clamp release member 20 arranged to be vertically movable between a clamp release position, at which the clamp release member comes into contact with the optical disk to regulate the movement of the optical disk, and an evacuate position at which the clamp release member is separated from the optical disk, and a release the member lift mechanism configured to ascend and descend the clamp release member in synchronism with the ascent and descent of the disk motor.
