The method involves inserting carbon into an open carbon guide on a side of an electrical universal motor. A compression spring (1) supported on a side turned away from the motor at the carbon guide is pressed against a commutator. The compression spring is inserted into the carbon guide in a prestressed detachable manner and is removed from the carbon guide. The spring is held in the compressed condition by freezing or by inserting into a wax layer, where the spring consists of memory effect material. An independent claim is also included for a spring comprising memory effect material.
