<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system providing high energy efficiency by reducing light absorption loss; and a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: This lighting system 1 includes a light guide plate 3, and a light source 2 entering light including colored light rays of respective colors such as R, G and B into an end face of the light guide plate 3.
