<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a developer efficientli to be adaptabe to the quality of developer in a developing chamber, which changes according to a printing condition, in a developing device using a one-component developer. <P>SOLUTION: The developing device includes: a housing 51 which forms the developing chamber A in it and stores the developer composed of one-component; a developer supply means 59 having at least a stirring part 57 with a stirring chamber C in it; a first conveying passage 501 for supplying the developer to the upper part of the developing chamber A from the stirring chamber C; a second conveying passage 502 for recovering the developer from the lower part of the developing chamber A to the stirring chamber C; a third conveying passage 503 for re-supplying the developer from the lower part of the developing chamber A to the upper part of the developing chamber A; a developer carrier 52 disposed in the developing chamber A and bearing the developer; a developer supply member 53 disposed in the developing chamber A and supplying the developer to the developer carrier 52; and a restricting member 54 disposed in contact with the developer carrier 52 and restricting the developer on the surface of the developer carrier 52.
