<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and more surely grasp a flow of the content of content by enabling a thumbnail image of a scene desired by a user to be displayed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: On a content retrieval screen 5C1, a listing of metadata 30a-30i constituted of a thumbnail image 32 or attribute data 31 extracted from contents of a designated category "movie", for example, according to a rule 1, for example, is displayed. In a state where the attribute data 31 of the metadata 30a are selected, for example, a rule change screen 45 of the thumbnail is displayed by prescribed operation of a remote controller (not shown in the figure) and when a desired rule 2 is selected-determined by a cursor 6a, for example, the thumbnail image 32 of the metadata 30a is changed into a thumbnail image according to the determined rule 2 (not shown in the Fig 13(b)). When similar operation is performed in a state where a category "movie" tag 44a is selected, the thumbnail image can be changed into thumbnail images according to different rules for the entire metadata 30a-30i.
