<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a saber saw capable of easily cutting in the case of cutting operation by moving the position of a base 12 in accordance with a material to be cut. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The saber saw comprises a housing incorporating a motor, a reciprocating conversion mechanism for converting rotary motion of the motor to reciprocating motion of a plunger, a blade provided for the plunger and capable of cutting the material to be cut, and the base having a portion extending so as to spatially intersect the blade. The base has a second member extending almost in the reciprocating motion direction of the plunger from the housing, and a first member movable in the range wherein the first member spatially intersects the blade relative to at least the second member. The problem can be solved by the saber saw characterized in that an angle formed by the intersection of the first member before moving and the blade is almost equal to an angle formed by the intersection of the first member after moving and the blade.
