The method involves determining a present vehicle position, information about a present path (S) and a vehicle speed (v) of an own vehicle (1). The speed of the vehicle is controlled and/or regulated based on the determined information. A preset vehicle speed, a momentary drive position, a momentary drive and braking torque are adjusted, regulated and/or controlled in dependent of parameters of the preceding path and/or in dependent of a parameter of an ahead-driving vehicle (2). An independent claim is also included for a device for performing a vehicle operating method, comprising a control and/or regulating unit.
