<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a working table positioned on the same plane as that of a casing top surface of an image reading section on the side of the original carrying section, capable of preventing an original document on the working table from entering a gap between the image reading section and the original carrying section. <P>SOLUTION: The copier 1 includes the original carrying section 9 and the image reading section 8 for reading an original carried by the original carrying section 9, wherein a flat portion 42a is provided on the side of the original carrying section 9 and the flat portion 42a and the casing top surface of the image reading section 8 are on substantially the same plane. The copier 1 includes a gate member 146 disposed so as to freely come out or go into the plane, a gate moving up/down mechanism 140 for driving the gate member 146 so that the gate member can come out or go into the plane, and a control section 22 for controlling the gate moving up/down mechanism 140 so that the gate member 146 can protrude upward from the plane when the image reading section 8 is closed and at least while the image reading section 8 performs image reading operation, which are provided between the flat portion 42a and the original carrying section 9. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
