PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To not only use an autonomic technology for reducing maintenance cost but also discover a sign used to prevent a problem for performing preventive maintenance. SOLUTION: A computer system connectable to a symptom database includes: a symptom generation unit for generating at least one second symptom in accordance with a predetermined symptom generation policy based on a first symptom; and a symptom evaluation unit which evaluates the second symptom in accordance with the predetermined evaluation policy based on data acquired by applying the first symptom to an event record including information about a plurality of events and data acquired by applying the second symptom to the event record, and decides whether or not the second symptom is usable for detecting a set of events associated with the predetermined problem in accordance with the evaluation.
