<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode to be used for a water electrolysis apparatus, the electrode having good electrolytic efficiency, excellent mechanical strength and no deformation in the electrode, and reusable, and excellent in dimensional accuracy. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The electrolytic unit of an alkali water electrolysis apparatus is composed of an electrolytic cell 1 where an alkali solution W circulates, an electrode 2 for the water electrolysis apparatus, and an ion permeable diaphragm 5. The electrode 2 for the water electrolysis apparatus has a structure where working electrodes 6, 7 and multi-pole plates 3, 4 as electrode plates are connected by four leaf springs 8, 9 disposed in a grid state as conductive elastic plate members functioning as a feeder. Both sides of the ion permeable diaphragm 5 are interposed by the work electrodes 6, 7 of the electrode 2 for the water electrolysis apparatus. An expanded metal is used for the work electrodes 6, 7.
