<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve formability of lignans/lignins of plant. <P>SOLUTION: A plant is irradiated with a light containing a wavelength component in a wavelength region of 435-490 nm so that expression of (1) 4-coumaroyl-CoA-synthase 3 gene, (2) cinnamoyl-CoA-reductase gene, (3) cinnamyl alcohol dehydrogenase family gene and/or (4) peroxidase 21 gene of plant is promoted. The expression of these genes promotes conversion reaction, for example, from p-coumaryl alcohol to p-hydroxyphenyl lignin so as to improve productivity of lignans and/or lignins and their metabolites.
