The device (1) has a measuring tube (2) for receiving fluid i.e. oil (4), and a delay measuring device (5) for determining a delay of a measuring signal (6) e.g. light signal, sound signal and ultrasonic signal, along a measuring distance (s). The distance extends between a fluid surface (9) and a base wall (7) of an oil tank (3) running along the fluid surface. A floating body (10) is arranged at the fluid surface and has a surface (8) for reflecting the signal. A measuring signal converter (11) is arranged at the wall above or below the floating body.
