PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a movement direction calculating apparatus for reducing a process load, and accurately calculating the movement direction of a walking body. SOLUTION: In the movement direction calculating apparatus 110, a detecting section 111 detects the acceleration of the walking body 100 in three axial directions as an X-axis, a Y-axis and a Z-axis. The movement direction calculating apparatus identifies a peak interval of an acceleration curve of the detected acceleration in the Z-axis as a walking interval of the walking body 100. A direction calculating section 113 uses the acceleration curve in each axial direction at the identified walking interval, and calculates a score for converting the possibility that the walking body 100 moves in eight directions as the forward, backward, left, right, diagonally forward and backward right, and diagonally forward and backward left directions into points.
