PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slug cooling method for saving a space, and efficiently performing cooling treatment in a short time under good working environment. SOLUTION: In this slug cooling method in which a slug supply opening 12 and a slug discharging opening 13 are respectively formed on an upstream-side end section and a downstream-side end section, the slug of high temperature is supplied to the slug supply opening 12 while rotating a metallic cylindrical cooling body 11 disposed while being tilted downward from an upstream side to a downstream side on its shaft center, and the slug indirectly cooled in the cylindrical cooling body 11 is discharged from the slug discharging opening 13, piping 31 for spraying cooling water into the cylindrical cooling body 11 is disposed, so that the cooling water is directly sprayed to the slug a temperature of 900°C or less conveyed in the cylindrical cooling body 11 to cool the slug.
