<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device that stabilizes the luminance of an image to be displayed even if the intensity of light outputted from a light source through an optical scanning part varies by a temperature etc. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image display device includes a drive control part 10 which supplies currents to lasers 21, 22 and 23 to project inspection-use light when a scanning position of the light scanned by the optical scanning part 50 is at a predetermined position outside an effective scanning range, and a light detecting part 80 disposed at a predetermined position outside the effective scanning range within a scanning range of the light scanned by the optical scanning part 50. The drive control part 10 supplies the currents to the lasers 21, 22 and 23 while changing current values at two points or more when the scanning position of the light scanned by the optical scanning part 50 is at the predetermined position outside the effective scanning range. Based on the intensity of the inspection-use light detected by the light detecting part 80, current-light emitting quantity characteristics (for example, a threshold current value Ithr and a maximum current value Imr) of the lasers 21, 22 and 23 are calculated, and the currents supplied to the lasers 21, 22 and 23 are adjusted based on the result of the calculation.
