<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new winding method for a magnetic tape which can contribute to the improvement of an yield and the reliability of the magnetic tape without spoiling a regular winding effect of the magnetic tape over the whole of a roll body being a preservation form. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This method comprises a thermal contraction process in which semipermanent thermal contraction is caused at one side of a width direction of a magnetic tape and curvature is given to the magnetic tape, a hub winding process in which the magnetic tape is wound on an outer peripheral surface of the hub to form a roll body, and a regular winding process in which the magnetic tape is wound on a tape reel, while pressing the one side in the width direction where thermal contraction is caused to the flange from the roll body. Then, in the hub winding process, a tightening force larger than tension added during the hub winding process is given to the outermost periphery of the roll body after being wound.
