PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient production method of a halogenated phthalic acid. SOLUTION: The production method of the halogenated phthalic acid of formula (2) or (3) (wherein X is a halogen atom; and n is 1 or 2) comprises oxidation of a halogenated xylene compound of formula (1) (wherein X and n are as defined above) by oxygen or air under the presence of a bromine-containing compound and under UV or visible light irradiation.
