<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an L-amino acid by which the efficiency of fermentation production of the L-amino acid is improved. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the L-amino acid includes cultivating a bacterium having an L-amino acid-producing ability in a medium to form and accumulate the L-amino acid in the medium or in the fungus, and collecting the L-amino acid from the medium or the fungus, wherein the bacterium belongs to the Enterobacteriaceae family, and is modified so that expression of the mdtE and mdtF genes comprising specific base sequences encoding multidrug resistance transporters is enhanced.
