<p>Provided is a cutting insert comprising an insert body (1) having a generally rhombic flat shape, a cutting face (2) formed on at least the rhombic face of the insert body (1), a corner portion (3) formed at the corner of the cutting face (2), and at least one pair of cutting edges (4) intersecting the corner portion (3) formed at the side edge of the cutting face (2). The cutting insert further comprises a breaker protrusion (10) formed on the cutting face (2) near the corner portion (3) and rising gradually in the direction of a bisector (L) of the corner portion (3) as the breaker protrusion (10) leaves the corner portion (3). The breaker protrusion (10) includes a front apex portion (11) of a protruding generally arcuate shape in a section taken along the bisector (L), and a side portion (12) having a recessed portion (12a) of a recessed generally arcuate shape in a section normal to the bisector (L). When the feed or notch is varied, therefore, the chip treatment is improved to afford a highly precise finished face quality and a long tool lifetime.</p> |
