PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus, having a tracking function which can focus with higher accuracy, when an accepting means accepts a focusing instruction. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus is provided with: an optical system for forming an image of a subject; a CCD for picking up the image of the subject to generate image data; a controller for searching feature information indicating partial features of the image data, in the image data generated in the CCD and sequentially moving a tracking region 50 as one part in the image data, based on the result of search of the feature information; a controller for setting a focused region 90 in the image data, according to the position of the tracking region 50 in the image data; a shutter switch for receiving the focusing instruction; and a controller for controlling the optical system so as to adjust the focusing state to the image of the subject, based on the image data inside the tracking region 50 and the focused region 90, when the shutter switch receives focusing instruction.
