PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve resolution by suppressing the occurrence of a false color and the deterioration in an S/N ratio of a color even when increasing sensitivity by pixel mixture. SOLUTION: An image pickup apparatus is provided with: a plurality of pixels 21 each outputting a pixel signal obtained by photoelectric conversion of an incident light; color filters for filtering a light incident into each of the pixels 21; and pixel-mixing sections (22, 23, 24) for mixing the pixel signals from the pixels 21 of lines adjacent to each other and outputting the mixed signals. The color filters are constituted by a repetitive pattern of a unit arrangement 71 of 16 pixel unit consisting of four lines by four columns, and the color filters constituting adjacent pixels adjacent in the row direction are the same in the proportion of color components as the color filters constituting the pixels having the same barycenter position in the row direction as that of the adjacent pixels and adjacent in the column direction, in an image obtained from the output signals after mixing the pixels.
