<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel assembly, capable of reducing the time required for formation of an appropriate control rod program for a nuclear reactor using a fuel assembly having SSR. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fuel assembly includes a plurality of fuel rods 2, the lower end thereof being held by a fuel holding part 4 of a lower tie plate 3 and the upper end thereof being held by an upper tie plate 5. The fuel holding part 4 is located on the upper end of the lower tie plate. A spectral shift rod (SSR) 7 is disposed at a cross-sectional center part of the fuel assembly so as to be disposed between the fuel rods 2. The SSR 7 includes a riser tube 8 and a down comer 9 connected to the upper end of the riser tube 8. An riser passage 11 within the riser tube 8 is connected to a down passage 12 within the down comer 9. A plurality of openings 14 is formed in a lower end sidewall of the down comer 9 sealed at the lower end. Vapor generated within the riser passage 11 is discharged through each opening 14. The vapor bubble discharged out of each opening 14 is perfectly condensed with sub-cool water while it reaches a non-boiling area upper end. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
