Disclosed is a metal material of which the surface has been subjected to a treatment providing platelet deposition and blood clot formation inhibiting functions. The oxide film present on the surface of titanium or titanium alloy as a result of an electrolytic treatment is further oxidized and the formation of a fibrin network is inhibited in a platelet deposition test using a solution wherein the platelet count has been adjusted to 1.0 x 105 cells/µL and to which 1.96 x 10-2 mol/L of calcium chloride had been added to suppress the coagulation rate.
