381,333. Boat-lowering gear. FULLER, C. H., 475, East Davis Street, Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. Oct. 8, 1931, No. 27964. [Class 115.] The davits 28 are carried on a common shaft 27 on an extension of which is mounted the winch which comprises gear controlling the boat-raising and lowering-falls as well as the inboard and outboard luffing movements of the davits. The drums 67, 68 of this winch are looselv mounted on the shaft and the falls pass over fair leads to the davit heads and thence to the boat. A brake for controlling the winch is provided. The davits are luffed from a second winch handle on the boat through gearing controlled by a pawl and terminating in a spur wheel 43 fast on the shaft 27. The movements of the davits are further controlled by counterweights 25 located in hollow standards 21 and connected by ropes 31 which pass over leads on the standards and are fastened at 30 to the davits. The heads of the counterweights contacting with the heads of the standards serve as stops to limit the luffing movements of the davits. The davits are spaced widely apart and may be luffed inboard to pick up a second boat. |
