PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element satisfactorily providing surface emission according to donor-acceptor pair light emission by DC driving or AC driving of low voltage and, at the same time, having improved life characteristics than heretofore. SOLUTION: The light emitting element 100 comprises a pair of electrodes 2, 4 and a light emitting layer 3 which is arranged between the electrodes 2, 4 and has a donor-acceptor pair light emission function, wherein the light emitting layer 3 contains at least one kind of element among Y, Nb, Mo, Zr, Hf, Ta, W and Re.
